This is a fantastic opportunity to get in at the earliest stages of a synthetic biology company and guide the development of genetically modified crops to address important industrial and humanitarian problems.
Responsibilities
- Design and lead experiments, interpret results and troubleshoot experiment hurdles
- Creation of various expression vector systems which can workable in prokaryotes such as cyanobacteria using synthetic biology tools
- Optimization of cyanobacterial transformation methods
- Creation of transgenic lines using various transformation techniques including natural transformation, electroporation, lipofection etc.
- Selection/confirmation of positive lines and maintenance of the transgenic lines. Regularly monitoring the lines using PCR or Southern blot
- Quantification of expressed proteins from the transformant lines using densitometry assay with western blot or ELISA
- Purification of the expressed protein using FPLC for the in vitro activity test
- Regular report on the progress
Qualifications
- 3 or more years Industry experience, working in an R&D leadership role
- Ph.D. in plant/algal/cyanobacteria molecular biology, or related field
- Maintain good records for everyday works and planning/designing/reporting for each experiment/project.
- Familiarity with prokaryotic expression system of recombinant peptides/proteins, such as chloroplasts or cyanobacteria, transformation vector construction, bombardment, PEG-based transformation.
- Have a proven track record of success in cyanobacteria transformation and characterization of the expressed proteins
- Proficiency in core molecular biology experiment skills such as (assembly) cloning, genome editing, various PCR techniques, Southern blot, western blot, ELISA, FPLS etc.
- Bioinformatics – high throughput data analysis
- Protein expression, purification and quantification
